Compton Girls Club is a remarkable organization dedicated to empowering young girls in Compton and surrounding areas. Over the past three years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with them on a variety of initiatives, from their Cyber Girl program to their Pride and Dine events. It has been incredibly rewarding to support an organization led by such passionate and inspiring people.

Cyber Girl is an empowering 9-week program designed to teach young girls comprehensive skills in digital magazine creation. Participants gain hands-on experience in coding, graphic design, and journalism, working collaboratively to produce a digital magazine from start to finish. This program is a partnership between Compton Girls Club, The Hidden Genius Project for coding education, Hunnibuzz for graphic design and art direction mentorship, and OurWatts Bookshop for crafting articles, poems, and stories. Through this initiative, the girls develop creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork while exploring their potential as digital creators and storytellers.

One of the events we curated with Compton Girls Club was the Pride and Dine experience. We organized a scavenger hunt and coordinated with iconic small businesses in the 4th Street Retro Row area to create a fun, inclusive tour for the girls. The event highlighted queer- and BIPOC-friendly businesses such as Salud Juice, Plantiitas, Gusto Bread, Pigeons Skate Shop, and concluded with a celebratory lunch at El Barrio Cantina. We were thrilled to help provide an experience that reflected the organization’s values of inclusivity and community, giving participants an engaging and memorable day out.
